Mount Airy Casino Resort, which is marking the one-year anniversary of its opening today, announced that it has distributed more than $2 billion in payouts during is first 12 months of operation. The casino resort has also paid more than $87.9 million in taxes to state, county, and local government since its opening on October 22, 2007.
Mount Airy Casino Resort is marking its one-year anniversary by running a special promotion during the month of October for its Players' Club members, offering them increased rewards as a thank you for their loyalty. Mount Airy Casino Resort's volume of play has seen significant improvement in recent weeks, with the casino resort experiencing its third and fourth highest weeks since opening in each of the past two weeks.
Prior to its opening, the ownership and management of Mount Airy Casino Resort made a commitment to the local community to invest in the region and its workforce. The casino resort represents a $350 million investment in the region and employs approximately 950 individuals. Approximately 98 percent of the workforce are residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Mount Airy Casino Resort has kept its commitment to utilize local vendors for its purchasing and service needs and has worked to developed partnerships with local businesses to help cross marketing the region.
A study released earlier this year by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board also showed that Mount Airy Casino Resort had the most diverse workforce of any casino in the state. The study, released in March 2008, showed that more than 37 percent of the casino resort's 950 person workforce is non-white, more than double the percentage of any other casino in the state. The study also showed that Mount Airy Casino Resort employs more minorities than the combined total of the other three casinos for which statistics were available. These employment figures are well above the census figures for Monroe County, where the casino is located, which has a minority population of 17.8 percent.
The lakeside Mount Airy Casino Resort is located in the heart of the beautiful Pocono Mountains. The casino resort features a mix of more than 2,500 reel-spinning machines and the newest themed video slots, electronic table games, as well as progressive jackpots.
